Let’s Go Shopping

Today was my first day of school. School actually started yesterday (Wednesday) but we (me and Sonia) decided to be truants and we went to Santa Monica. We went to the promenade and went shopping. How funny right. Poor students shopping. I thought the place was going to be a ‘rich person’ place but it was actually pretty cool. There was actually different people there(Hooray for diversity!). There’s a mall and then it extends into stores outside which line a closed off street. Its what the Fulton Mall in Fresno should look like, or maybe what it used to look like at one point. The cool thing was that the Lucky store was having a 50% off sale and I “scored me two pairs of jeans.” After the shopping we went to East L.A. and ate tacos. Man, that taco truck has got to serve the best tacos in the world. They’re delicious! Every time I am in L.A. I try to stop by and order some tacos de ‘lengua’. But anyways, back to the story at hand. Today was my first day of class. Everything went well. Thank God. I didn’t have any panic attacks, although the thought is always on my mind. I wish that feeling would just disappear! I hate feeling that way. Once again I am going to take 21 units this semester, 5 classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and two classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Last semester I managed to get a 3.0, I am hoping for better this semester if I really want to have a legitimate chance at law school. I also have decided that I am going to graduate this May, and maybe go to summer school and finish up the rest of my requirements or there is the real good chance that I’ll do one more semester in the Fall. The second option would be the cheapest, since Financial Aid would pay for it. I think I am considering this option more than the prospect of going to summer school. Geez, if only I had started as a history major from the beginning, I would’ve finished a long time ago! Oh well. I can’t complain, since it has been a good learning experience.

Time goes by fast, if you don’t stop to look around once in a while, it will pass you by

Right now is the eleventh minute, of the thirteenth hour, of the first day of the year two-thousand and two. There was no heavy celebrating yesterday; instead it was a night of being with family. Just the Rojo family: Dad, Mom, Fredo, Ricki, and me. We had had plans to go to L.A. to celebrate with my dad’s side of the family. I know that amazing, but it also happens that my ‘tia Marico’ is visiting from Michigan. She came to visit us a few days ago along with her some of here daughters (cousins) and some other family. It was good times. I hadn’t seen her in years, I think at least ten. The night didn’t go to smooth, there always has to be some adversity*chuckle*. The Rojo plumbing decided to behave badly and so we had some problems with the toilets no flushing properly and later they began to throw up*LOL* But hey that’s how it is. You always have to be ready for the worst right? And with this family it is no exception. It’s impressive how we get past things of that sort. Some would be embarrassed, others would upset, but not we; we take everything in stride. Thank God. Well, back to the New Years celebrations. We decided to stay home and my parents made us a pretty good dinner, although Mexican dishes were lacking. That was soon taken care of for my mom began to make her delicious ‘tamales.’ Sonia stopped by and she was helping my mom (pretty impressive, I guess she deserves some ‘brownie points’). Although she was upset with me (she denies it) I managed to get her in a better mood, and eventually an even better one. We celebrated the Central Time Zone New Year at 11:00pm (is that correct?) sitting on our porch on a nice wooden bench under the kitchen window. The previous nights there had been plenty of rain, but as for tonight, the skies were clear and the moon was bright, even the stars sparkled. Today was not the night to be upset. After Noni left we watched the waning minutes of the countdown on TV, and celebrated as though we were also in the streets of the ‘Big Apple.’ We even got to taste some stale champagne *LOL*. After that we prayed together as a family, with the sounds of a cell phone ringing in the background (sonia). That was our night. It wasn’t spectacular with fireworks and alcohol and all the rest, but it was nice. What more can you ask for right? I mean, our time here is so short and as you get older the clock seems to be running at a faster rate. We have to enjoy each others company while we are here here. Let’s take advantage and be with each other. Because eventually times runs out on everyone and all you’ll have is memories. Why not have happy memories of the time spent together? I’ll always remember a saying that I heard once in a movie: “Time goes by fast, if you don’t stop to look around once in a while, it will pass you by.”
